Whether you want to improve your skin tone and light, understand the process of creating a hyperrealist painting, or find your artistic voice, experience three intense days of inspiration and technique with Omar Ortiz, the master who transforms simplicity into extraordinary realism.

Detailed program

DAY 1: Introduction to the course

Group and individual discussion of all the materials that will be used over the three days. Omar will review your preparatory sketch for the painting. This will be followed by the coloring and preparation of the canvas with acrylic paints, with insights into color mixing and preparation to achieve all the ideal skin tones. You will have the opportunity to see how Omar personally selects his set of skin tones for all his works, as he will give exclusive demonstrations throughout the day. You will have plenty of opportunities to discuss your style, preferences, and inspirations with the artist.

DAY 2: Painting Process

You'll continue painting, picking up where you left off from the previous day. Along the way, you'll see how Omar develops his work in different areas, as he'll continue to give very detailed demonstrations of each section of his painting. The goal is to truly focus on the process step by step, as you'll still have individual time with Omar for personalized, targeted advice and guidance.

DAY 3: Resolving doubts, challenges, and clarifications

Omar will continue with other very important aspects, such as providing examples to develop your overall process and resolving any issues you may encounter; this will help you complete your work outside of the workshop. There will be numerous group discussions throughout the day, as well as individual sessions to address any doubts and provide new suggestions and advice.

You will listen to an inspiring talk on Omar's personal inspirations, the painters he loves to follow, and many other topics such as studio lighting, camera setup and documentation, social media creation, and more.

The teacher

Omar Ortiz

Elisa Anfuso

Omar Ortiz was born in 1977 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, where he still lives. From a young age, he was interested in drawing and illustration. He studied for a degree in Graphic Design, where he learned various techniques such as hand drawing, pastels, charcoal, watercolors, acrylics, and airbrushing. After finishing university, he decided to make a living from painting. In 2002, he took his first oil painting class with artist Carmen Alarcón, whom he considers his greatest teacher. Omar Ortiz currently works with oil painting because he considers it the noblest technique.

A minimalism-hyperrealism characterizes his works, where white colors, the human body, and a magical interplay of textures predominate. "His paintings act as intimate works, trapped within themselves, outside of space and context." He has exhibited in Mexico, Spain, the Netherlands, and London.

"Ever since I started painting, I've always liked to represent things

as realistically as possible. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I don't. The fact is, it's very difficult for me to do the opposite. I enjoy the challenge of trying to reproduce natural light

and the nuances it gives us, especially in bright environments. I like to keep my works simple because I believe that excess makes us poorer rather than richer."
