Workshop Description

What you'll learn

This 3-day workshop is dedicated to painting flowers from life using the traditional three-layer technique. Participants will complete one floral painting, learning a clear and structured approach that removes the uncertainty of how to move forward at each stage. Through direct observation and guided instruction, we'll explore how to build a painting in layers—moving from composition and underpainting to color development, impasto, and final glazing. The painting will be done from life, therefore starting from a floral arrangement chosen by the teacher.

The artist

Anhelina Holembivska

Elisa Anfuso

Anhelina Holembivska is a Ukrainian painter currently based in Florence, Italy. Working primarily in oil, she is known for her luminous still lifes, delicate florals, and compositions that combine classical techniques with a poetic sensibility. Her approach is grounded in traditional methods yet infused with a personal vision shaped by both Eastern and Western influences.

Raised in the Ukrainian countryside, Holembivska developed a close relationship with the natural world early on—a connection that continues to inform her subject matter and palette. She studied painting at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Kyiv before relocating to Florence to deepen her training at the Academy of Fine Arts, where she immersed herself in the artistic legacy of the Italian Renaissance.

Holembivska's work is shaped by a reverence for craftsmanship, drawing inspiration from the clarity and rhythm of Flemish painting, the soft symbolism of Botticelli, and the compositional harmony found in Japanese woodblock prints. Her paintings are often described as contemplative and intimate, offering a sense of stillness that invites slow looking.

She is represented by Arcadia Contemporary in New York, and her work has been exhibited internationally and included in private collections across Europe and North America.
